School Programs Coordinator – Central Minnesota
Special Olympics Minnesota is seeking a School Program Coordinator – Central Minnesota. As a member of Special Olympics Minnesota’s Unified Champion Schools team, this position will focus on promoting social inclusion in schools in central Minnesota by bringing together students with and without intellectual disabilities.
There are over 200 Unified Champion Schools implementing inclusive programming in Minnesota and more schools are joining the movement every year! This position will bring the benefits of this programming to teachers and students in central Minnesota. (Special Olympics Minnesota’s areas 4, 5 and 6)
Unified Champion Schools is a major pillar of the Special Olympics movement, which seeks to improve the lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sports, health, leadership, and inclusive programming.
Essential duties and responsibilities
- Sustain programming in current Unified Champion Schools located in central Minnesota
- Cultivate relationships with new schools in central Minnesota
- Provide excellent customer service and support to teachers, students and district officials.
- Work directly with teachers, students and district officials to organize and host various events and campaigns
- Collaborate with the Unified Champion Schools team on various projects and events
- Empower teachers, students, district officials and community leaders to be change agents and promote inclusion
Special Olympics Minnesota is seeking candidates with:
- Personal or professional experience working in schools and communities outside of major metropolitan areas, such as in the central Minnesota areas served by this position (Special Olympics Minnesota’s areas 4, 5 and 6);
- Experience effectively working with people from diverse groups, including age, race, ethnicity, identity, ability levels, and backgrounds—especially to promote equity and inclusion;
- Experience successfully establishing and maintaining connections to local schools, school districts, and community and civic organizations; and
- Experience effectively managing medium- to large-scale projects and events.
Experience in and/or in-depth knowledge of Special Olympics, youth programming, and/or academic environments is a plus.

Seasonal positions
Special Events Assistant – September-December 2022
Gain experience managing projects, running events, and working collaboratively with a team while raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics Minnesota!
Responsibilities and duties
- Assist Special Olympics Minnesota’s Special Events team in planning and hosting fundraising events throughout the State of Minnesota—specifically including Polar Plunge events.
- Work on-site at events (typically Saturdays)
- Coordinate and/or perform setup and teardown
- Train and supervise volunteers
- Supervise participant registration areas
- Collect, enter, and manage registration information and paperwork
- Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment for meetings, trainings, and events
- Assist with marketing events on social media by writing copy, tracking engagement, and more
- Review and sort event photos
Qualifications
- Experience effectively using Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel)
About the job
- Seasonal position September-December 2022
- $15.00 per hour, up to 20 hours per week.
- Up to $80 per month to reimburse parking or transit fees.
- Flexible schedule for work in the office with hours typically worked Monday-Friday between 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. Some weekend and evening work will be requested.
- Primary office work location: Downtown Minneapolis. Opportunities to attend and support meetings, trainings, and/or events at other locations. Opportunities to work from home.
- Work at fundraising events required, including Polar Plunge events.
- Laptop computer provided.
